Self-Help and Life Skills

Students learn and practice functional and adaptive behaviors to increase their level of independent functioning in school and in a range of community environments. This approach targets students who learn best from hands-on activities and benefit from structured support to apply the skills acquired in different environments. Students are scheduled for Life Skills throughout the day in time blocks tailored to the learing activity.

Some examples of what we do:

  • Use in-school settings to focus on personal care, independence, self-help, work behaviors, and socializing
  • Access community resources including local businesses, restaurants, and retail settings to learn and practice skills
  • Work on time management including self-monitoring
  • Safety awareness
  • Reinforce language and interpersonal skills in community
  • Obtain and use personal identification card
